Robert G. Jorgensen

Jorgensen, Robert G. 73 04/03/1937 07/10/2010 Robert G. Jorgensen was born April 3, 1937, in Portland. Within days of his birth, he was adopted by Henry and Evelyn Jorgensen. Bob grew up in Southeast Portland and attended Washington High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He was able to attend Portland State University thanks to his mother's grand prize of $25,000 for winning the 1955 Pillsbury Bake-Off. At PSU, Bob met his future wife, Marilyn. They were married March 12, 1956, and recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. Bob was an outstanding baseball player at PSU. He batted .399 in his career, which was a school record until it was broken years later. He was also the first four-year letterman in the history of PSU athletics. Bob continued his love of baseball, playing in semi-pro leagues in Portland, and then coaching his three sons on numerous teams that won league championships. Bob had a highly successsful career in sales and marketing in the paper industry. He spent 28 years with Boise Cascade, where he rose to the position of general manager of the white paper division. He finished his career as an executive with Willamette Industries before retiring in 2000. In his retirement, Bob enjoyed traveling the world with his beloved wife. He also enjoyed playing golf and spending precious moments with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the men's club at Claremont Adult Resort Living Community. Bob is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Karen, Keith, Phil, and Mark; and grandchildren, Brittany, Brooke, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Colton, Paige, Kyra, and Kyle. A public viewing will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010, in Springer and Son Aloha Funeral Home. A private burial will take place Friday, July 16, followed by a reception at 3 p.m. in the clubhouse of Claremont Adult Resort Living Community.
