Charlotte Horine Erickson

Erickson, Charlotte Ruth Horine 94 8/27/1915 3/13/2010 Charlotte Horine Erickson, age 94, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 13, 2010. The daughter of the late Erwin and Ethel Curl, she was a Portland native who attended Sunnyside Elementary and Washington High schools. Charlotte married Jack Barnicoat in 1935, and had two children, Donald and Nancy. Jack passed away in 1944. She then married Durald Horine in 1945 and had six additional children, Douglas, Kathy, Julie, Sandra, Diane and Susan. Durald passed away in 1982. 

Charlotte spent most of her time raising her large family in their big colonial home on Southeast 49th Avenue and Stark Street. She loved to knit and sew and was very musical, playing the piano and organ. She was a lifetime member of Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church. She worked for Bohemian Bakery for many years and for Kienow's grocery store for 13 years until she retired. She retired to the community of Summerplace in Portland, later moved to Summerplace Assisted Living, and spent her last few years in the wonderful care of Millie and Leonard Domingo in their adult foster home. 

She was very active in the Eastern Star and twice served as worthy matron of the Sunnyside Chapter. She was also a member of Friendship Chapter, Christina Court of the Amaranth and the White Shrine. She married Neil C. Erickson in 1984 and enjoyed many happy years with him until his death in 1998. Charlotte will be remembered for her happy positive attitude and large smile, and for the huge pride and love she had for her family, always carrying pictures to share. She had a smile on her face right up to end of her life. 

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Holt; sister, Dorothy; and daughter, Nancy Moulton. She is survived by her sons, Donald Horine (Darlene) and Douglas Horine (Carol); and daughters, Kathy (Larry), Julie Edmister (Bob), Sandy Tagliavento (Tom) Diane Small (Dennis) and Susan (Greg). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. 

There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2010, in Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church, 5441 S.E. Belmont St., Portland. Memorial donations may be made to Housecall Providers, 4531 S.E. Belmont St., Suite 250, Portland, OR 97215.
